Dajunay's Story
Starting out with her first checking account, feeling supported and encouraged.
Dajunay needed a checking account. As a student who participated in the SYEP summer program in 2016, she was able to join DC Credit Union using her DC One student ID.
Also as part of her employment through SYEP, she signed up to have her paychecks deposited directly into her DC Credit Union checking account. She enjoyed having faster access to her money, and finds it much easier to save money because she also has a savings account.
For Dajunay, mobile banking is key to helping her take care of her finances. Instead of standing in a line at the branch, she uses the DC Credit Union app on her mobile phone. “I do everything on my phone—social media, banking, everything. Banking is faster online, using the app,” Dajunay explains.
But the real highlight for Dajunay has been the personal attention she’s gotten from Miss Tesha at DC Credit Union. As someone new to banking, she really appreciates that she can call her directly if she needs help solving a problem. “Miss Tesha is really helpful and she’s friendly when it comes to banking, or if I can’t get into my account online banking. She stays with me on the phone to make sure everything gets fixed and is taken care of.”
“I feel great being with the credit union,” says Dajunay. “I will probably stay with them for as long as I can.”
